Showit Media Lab Help Index

Overview

Welcome to the Showit Media Lab, a service to allow you to sell media items such as books, DVDs and digital video downloads straight from the Showit Web shows you build. This service was formerly called "Showit-DVD" but has now been renamed since it also includes the selling of fine art books. It is still hosted at showit-dvd.com but will be referred to from here on out as the "Media Lab".

There are three steps to get your account setup and activated so you can start selling, they are:
Start by going to showit-dvd.com where you will be able to login with your email address you used to purchase Showit Web at getit.davidjay.com. You also have the option to create a new account. You must login once to activate your account and set prices before you will be able to use the system.
Once you login or enter a new username and password, you must agree to the terms of service that you own the copyrights to the material you will be allowing your clients to purchase.

Finally, all you need to do is set the default prices for your shows and you are ready to allow your clients to purchase DVDs, digital video downloads and fine art books.

Activating Media Lab in Showit Web

To display the "Purchase Show on DVD" or "Purchase a Picture Book" button for your shows created with Showit Web, you will need to download the latest version 2.7 of Showit Web. This version is a free upgrade to version 1.1 and 2.0 users. Version 1.1 keys will activate the "LITE" version and 2.0 keys will activate the "PRO" version.
When you create a show inside of Showit Web, just be sure to check the box for "Showit Media Compatible" which will add another folder into your show called "dvd______" containing images used to build a DVD or print a book.
Be sure to upload this folder with your show if you would like the show to have the ability to be purchased on DVD.
If you resize your images before using Showit Web, be sure they are at least 1800 pixels wide by 1800 pixels tall when creating DVD and book enabled shows. Don't worry, these higher quality images are not referenced inside of Showit Web and the folder name is encrypted so your clients will not have access to steal these images from your site.
After creating a show, go to the "Publish" tab and enter your email in the box on the lower left to activate your Media Lab account inside Showit Web.
On the "Controls" tab make sure to select the box for "Show 'Purchase DVD' button" or "Show 'Purchase Book' button".
Now when you preview your show there will be a circular button for "Purchase Show on DVD" or a book icon for "Purchase a Picture Book". These buttons will only work once you upload the show to your site.
Your clients can now click on these buttons which will take them to an order page to purchase the DVD or book.

You can customize this page to have your own colors and an image on the top. Once your client purchases here, you receive an email notifying you that you made money and we take care of building, burning, printing, packaging, and shipping your show to your client.

Using the Media Lab Site

When you login to your account, the first section of the site you will be on is the list of orders. Orders

Here is where you can see the status of your orders as well as the amount of ciza$h you're banking by doing nuthin. At the bottom of the page you'll notice the totals as well as the total "Unredeemed Profit" that you can request at anytime.

Redeem $

Redeem

This is where you request payments be sent to you. Payments are not automatically sent because you have three options to choose how you would like to be paid. The three payment options are:
  • You can apply the money in your account towards purchasing for clients or samples for your studio or getting discounted digital files to watch over and over so that you can admire your own work. If you use this option the 5% processing charge is waived.
  • Your second option is to request a PayPal transfer of your funds to be deposited directly into your PayPal account. The typical 5% processing charge is applied at this time and payments are processed on the first and third Friday of the month.
  • The third option is to request a check that will be mailed to you. The typical 5% processing charge is applied at this time and payments are processed on the first and third Friday of the month.
* The processing fee is in place to cover our costs for the credit card and merchant account fees along with the accounting overhead.

My Shows

My Shows

This is the cool customization section. It shows you all the shows you have in our system and how much profit you've made on each show. If you only want to control which shows can be purchased, you can set their status to "On" or "Off" by clicking on the status link next to the show. Show Status

You can also order a show for yourself or for your client by clicking on the "Order Show" link. Order Show

Clicking on the show will allow you to customize the way the order page looks, the prices for the show, and the template or custom settings to use. Edit Show

Add a Show

Add A Show

At the top right you can manually "Add a Show" so that you can customize the prices and options for a show before your client purchases. Add A Show
All that is needed to add a show is the full Show URL, for example: http://www.example.com/myshow/

Notice, the path should end with a backslash "/" because you are pointing to the folder that contains the show. Do NOT include "index.html" or the HTML page that the show is on, just the full path to the folder containing the show.

You are NOT required to add a show before a client can purchase. The first time the order button is clicked on a show, it will automatically get added intor your shows. If you want the default settings including pricing and template to be used for a show, you do not ever have to worry about using this step to add in a show. Even if you want to configure each show, you may prefer to click on the order button from your show to add it to your account, then login and adjust the settings for the show.

Edit Default Settings

If you have not added a show to this site, the first time a client clicks on the "Buy DVD" button within your Showit Web show, this new show will be added to your shows with the default settings applied. Your client can then continue the purchase without you ever having to add the show to our site. Add A Show

You can edit and set your "Default Settings" that will be applied to each new show by clicking on the link on the top right.

Show Info

The first tab you see when viewing the info about a show is the information pulled from the "showit.xml" file inside the show on your site. Edit Show
You can click on the "Refresh Info" button to update show infol again for any changes that you have made to the show on your site since the show was added to the Media Lab site. Be sure to use a good "Title", "Subtitle", and "Bottom" text within the "Customize Page" tab in Showit Web because this will be used for your show information on the DVD. Also note that the "Contains High-Quality Images" field says "Yes" so that you know a DVD created from this show will come out looking really good. When you create a new show in Showit Web 2.7, be sure to check the box for "Showit Media Compatible" so that these high quality images will be included with your show.
